Wendell Foster is interested in hiring an energetic Phlebotomist for our Intermediate Care Facility to join the team of #DifferenceMakers!

What matters to us:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an accredited Phlebotomy Technician Program preferred.
  • Previous experience in phlebotomy or healthcare setting preferred.
  • Experience working with elderly populations or in long-term care facilities is a plus.
  • National certification (e.g., PBT (ASCP), CPT, or equivalent) required.
  • Possess, or be able to possess, required first aid and CPR certifications (training provided).
  • Possess valid driver’s license, insurable driving record, and ability to drive facility vehicles.

Essential Functions:

  1. Perform venipuncture and capillary blood draws for ICF residents, ensuring proper technique to minimize discomfort and reduce risk of complications.
  2. Ensure accurate identification of residents and specimens to prevent errors in testing and treatment.
  3. Collect specimens for a variety of tests as directed by physician’s orders.
  4. Engage with residents in a professional, compassionate manner to reduce anxiety before, during, and after the procedure.
  5. Monitor residents for any signs of discomfort or complications and report any adverse reactions promptly to the Nurse on Duty (NOD).
  6. Accurately label and document specimens, ensuring that all necessary patient information is recorded correctly.
  7. Prepare and hand-off specimens to the appropriate WF transportation staff member, communicating proper handling and storage requirements. WF transportation staff will transport specimens to Owensboro Health laboratory.
  8. Adhere to infection control procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), hand hygiene, and safe disposal of needles and other sharp instruments.
  9. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including OSHA standards and HIPAA confidentiality regulations.
  10. Communicate effectively with nursing staff, physicians, and laboratory technicians regarding resident needs and specimen collection procedures.
  11. Assist in the training and orientation of new staff or temporary personnel when needed.
  12. Assist with maintaining inventory of phlebotomy supplies.
  13. Stay current on phlebotomy practices and relevant healthcare regulations.
